What is an ambient light sensor?

An ambient light sensor the amount of light within the environment in which the phone is being used to adjust the screen brightness to give you the best viewing experience (if set to automatic brightness).

What is a proximity sensor?

A proximity sensor detects how close the phone is to the users head when being used during a phone call, to turn of the screen backlight as this is not required when on a call. Removing the phone away from the head will restore the screens backlight.
